Secession? Did I Say Secession?
For such a fan of secession, Texas Gov. Rick Perry sure is quick to ask for federal bucks. Hurricane disaster assistance? Check. Antiviral medications to combat swine flu? Check.
Now I live just two miles from the Fresh Meadows, Queens, New York swine flu outbreak at St. Francis Prep School. And I’m all for sending swine flu meds to needy areas like Texas. I just wish Texas didn’t have such a hypocrite for a governor.
And that brings me to my latest limerick:
Secession? Did I Say Secession?
By Madeleine Begun Kane
My Texas is quite independent,
Said Rick Perry — secession-defendant.
Then he called for the feds
To send anti-flu meds.
With hypocrisy Perry’s resplendent.

Now cast Perry in a parody musical called Country Fiddler on the Roof, with hit songs such as Secession! and Yes, I am a rich man…
LOL!, Steve. Sounds like a good idea.
Guv. Goodhair may actually be more of a joke than his predecessor was.
I’m starting to think the pollution from all that oil has damaged a whole lot of brains down there…
LOL That is so very true and applies to so many in public office. We’ve a few of those in Canada.
Thanks for your comments JollyRoger and Val. I fear that hypocrisy and idiocy knows no borders.
I have it on good sources that Texas thinks New Jersey is a northern county. So I’m starting a New Jersey secession from Texas movement. NOw once New Jersey is free and clear, Texas can’t secede fast enough in my book.
Great blog!
Thanks, Cranelegs! Sounds like a plan. :)
(Sigh.) Because some people don’t do their homework, they don’t realize that the Texas House of Representatives is now only two (2) votes away from Democratic control, that Rick Perry’s governorship is under threat from within his own disintegrating party, that Texas will become “majority minority” within the next decade (with all that implies politically), etc.
People, I’m as willing (eager, even) to laugh at my state as anyone else. But if you’re going to stereotype Texas, perhaps you should read a news site once in a while. If you don’t, you risk spouting stale satire that is years out of date. Take Mad as your role model; she bases her humor on real-world current events.
As Molly showed us, as Mad continues to show us, Texas politics is funny. But ignorance is not. Read before you write, folks.
I understand your frustration, Steve. And your comment possibly helps explain Perry’s behavior — desperation to keep his hold on power.
And thanks so much for your lovely compliment. I’m still blushing at being mentioned in the same paragraph as Molly Ivins!
Classic! I love it!
Thanks, Evelyn!
