Who’s Our President, Again?

A good way to gauge a Republican pol’s classiness quotient is his or her response to Osama bin Laden’s killing:

Do they congratulate everyone who deserves credit, including President Obama?

Do they act as if Barack Obama was merely carrying out Bush’s bidding?

Do they pretend Obama doesn’t even exist?

Needless to say, Sarah Palin has failed the classiness test.

Who’s Our President, Again?
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Some Republican comments show class
And give credit where due without sass:
Mitt Romney and Dub
And Pawlenty don’t snub
Prez Obama. But Palin’s an ass.

We’re out of the loop over here; what did she say?

  2. Scott says:

tilly, here is part of Sarah quote.

“Yesterday was a testament to the military’s dedication in relentlessly hunting down the enemy during many years of war,” Palin said. “And we thank our president. We thank president Bush.”

  3. madkane says:

Apparently GWB is still our president. Who knew? :)

  4. tilly bud says:

    Sigh.

    Thanks Scott.

    From Politico:

“I give the president full credit for this, it took a lot of guts,” said House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King (R-N.Y.), whose district was home to dozens of New York City firefighters and cops killed in the attack on the World Trade Center on Sept 11th 2001. “He’s the commander-in-chief, he was the guy who put it on the line. There was no guarantee –none – that this would work. We could have had our helicopters shot down… It was a really delicate operation.”

Rep. Gary Ackerman, a Democrat who represents nearby Queens, was more pointed: “This was a ‘mission accomplished’ moment President Bush could have only dreamed of.”

I’d like to offer, if I may, my view as a complete outsider (i.e. a British UK resident) of Sarah Palin, based on brief glimpses two years ago when she came to prominence in the news over here: the impression I get is that she is an ambitious woman, with a hungry ego (don’t they all) and half a brain; that is the half that is capable of talking in sound bites, but not the half that’s capable of thinking; and would’ve been good in bed (metaphorically speaking) with George W Bush ? Am I close to it, or nearer to libel ? If the latter, I’ll make a tactical withdrawal.

  7. madkane says:

Poetjanstie, I’d say your Palin description is apt, but probably too kind. She also lazy and nasty. As for being partnered with GWB, I think they’re too similar to work well together. They’re both not too bright but political savvy, lazy, ambitious, good at suckering people, intellectually incurious, desiring power without the burden of responsibility that goes with it, etc.

  8. Poetjanstie says:

Wow, I’m clearly too polite! No libel, then!? As for partnering with GWB, I wasn’t imagining for one minute there’d be any chance they’d actually work together, so much as they’d have something in common, i.e. a dim intellect. They could sit in bed and ‘read’ comics and throw darts at the cat…

  9. Hansi says:

I heard Donald Trump is demanding to see Osama bin Laden’s death certificate :)

  10. madkane says:

    Hansi, anything’s possible. :)

Poetjanstie, you create quite the image. :)

  11. Poetjanstie says:

By the way, I didn’t mean offence with my remark about throwing darts at the cat… we have always had dogs, cats and various other pets over the years and, apart from once, at the age of seven, when I tried to ‘trim’ a cat’s whiskers (ouch!), I wouldn’t dream of mistreating an animal. No, my dart throwing comment was a metaphorical sideswipe at the type of personality we’re dealing with. By the way, I was punished for trimming the cats whiskers, not by my grandmother, whose cat it was, but by the cat, who left some memorable lacerations in one of my hand!

  12. madkane says:

Poetjanstie, I understood exactly what you meant. :)

  13. oudiva says:

Poetjanstie: I understand that YOU wouldn’t hurt an animal. But I’ve heard stories of a youthful GWB torturing frogs, so maybe the dart-throwing image wasn’t entirely off the wall.

  14. madkane says:

Oudiva, yes, I’ve heard those GWB tales too.
