Liberal Drilling? Chill, Obama, Chill!

Like so many of my fellow progressives, I am dismayed by Obama’s plans to open offshore areas to oil and natural gas drilling for the first time.

Before I get to my latest limerick, here are some other bloggers who are aggravated by plans to open coastal waters to oil exploration: skippy, John Amato, Melissa McEwan, Taylor Marsh, and Jonathan Turley.

And now, my limerick:

Liberal Drilling? Chill, Obama, Chill!
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Obama’s pronouncement ain’t thrilling.
He plans to expand off-shore drilling.
As a gal from the left
I am Mad and bereft.
Tell me, what has Obama been swilling?

  1. Realist says:

That fact that Obama’s for oil
    Should make his supporters recoil
    He sold out his soul
    With lies of Clean Coal
    While Plutonium Tea Kettles boil

The question that no one will ask:
Who put Ol’ Barack to this task?
    Main Street’s too broke
To get in on this joke
To fill up some foreigner’s cask.

    The energy isn’t for us
It goes to some Wall Streeter’s trust
    After they leave
Our poor land like a sieve
They’ll still be the world’s upper crust

And that is the name of this game
Abusing the poor? There’s no shame!
    As long as you gain,
    No concern for the pain
And someone else taking the blame!

Try to remember, Obama is a very astute politician. What do you think the chances are that they will in fact start drilling off the shore of Lindsey Graham’s home state? And even if they do, will it not be a small price to pay for our failure to elect a dem. for Ted K’s seat, and to get a better long-term energy/pollution policy?

Let me add, Rahm Emanuel. Bright. What do you think the chances are that a new nuke will really be built? It didn’t happen in 8 years under Bush, with most of the time being republican control. NIMBY. Is he risking the stupidity that exists even on the left in calling the right’s bluff? Lindsey is a wanna be leader, and he is getting played for wanting to be a big shot. Better good progress from a one term president than nothing or worse from a 2 termer. Worth the risk IMHO.

  4. Technically, much of those areas were already allotted to be open under the prior Administration. Obama was just making a formal announcement. Can’t praise or harsh him for this.
