War Weary Limerick

I do not support U.S. military intervention in Syria — seriously!

War Weary Limerick
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Though I’m constantly knocking and mocking
The Republican habit of blocking
The President’s moves,
I think it behooves
Both parties to thwart his war hawking.

Oh, be like sweet Eleanor Holmes,
Although as a peacenik she foams,
    She’ll support her Barry,
    His blackness will carry
The day, in the thickest of domes.

  2. The request that Congress allow,
    The bombing of Syria, now,
    Should start with the answer,
    Since war spreads like cancer,
Just who we’re supposed to help how?

Having just written my 40th Iraqi-reconciliation letter [apologias for bombing them for 9+ yrs] & being a member of Peace Action NY as well as a peacenik in ’70s against Vietnam War, I’m backing Obama on spanking Syria. Having endured a refugee camp for 5 yrs [seeking “refuge”], am pro mailing a special-delivery bomb to Assad. You can’t gas people [slow, violent death] w/impunity, buster. But who to try at an int’l war-crimes tribunal?
P.S. Your beer-sandwich limerick was a hoot & news, thanx, Mad. Will treasure your Italian-mistress limerick; does this affect women who park male lovers [mastresses] in corners?

    Off topic… Happy Birthday, Mad!

I am very opposed to military action in Syria–can’t human beings ever figure out how to live without war? It is the curse of our species. Thanks for posting this on Poetry Jam.

its funny how the stances of the parties flip depending on who is in office…maybe not funny…maybe its sad…

    Yes ma’am indeed.

  8. Yes, we dont wanna study war no more……been there, done that, way too many times. In his heart of hearts I dont think Obama wants it either, he is likely forced to tout the party line by the military industrial complex. He answers to them and to a heavily Republican congress – his hands are effectively tied and then they will blame him for “failing” to do so many things they would not let him do. Sigh. Grrrrrr.

Killing is bad…….whoever does that is evil…..great lines Madeleine….
