Limerick Ode To A Failed Presidency
Paul Krugman has it exactly right: The President Surrenders. The debt ceiling deal Obama negotiated with the Republican hostage takers is well beyond terrible. And the ransom Obama paid to the GOP is a presidential error beyond comprehension — one that will make today’s bad economy look like fun and games.
What will it do to the poor, the sick, the elderly, the middle class, and the unemployed? I’m way too depressed to discuss it.
Congratulations, Republicans! You’ve got yourself a right-wing Republican President.
Limerick Ode To A Failed Presidency
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Dear Obama, I’ve had it — you’ve failed.
It was time to be strong, but you bailed.
The Dems needed “bold.”
But instead you got rolled.
You’ve undermined all that we hailed.

You know Madeleine I think you’re right, but hope you’re wrong. I’m disappointed in Mr Obama for caving in to the radical right. Is he just another politician only looking out for his chances of re-election in 2012? Is this country about to be taken over by a radical right-wing fringe with their nifty slogans. Can Michelle Bachmann actually win the presidency?
Maybe a deeper look into the “Debt limit deal” will reveal it’s nothing but a big joke, and all the recent posturing about cutting big government nothing but some kabuki-like theater.
Hansi, I hope I’m wrong too, but I fear not. As for as your other questions, this manufactured crisis-hostage taking proves that anything can happen.
The only problem here is that he was never Really a Dem to begin with. He’s always been one of Them. People were just too much in denial (see: Hope and Change Land) to see it.
Good one.
Here’s my take on what just happened.
“Hey, I’ve got an idea. Repeal the Bush era tax cuts. Right now. Instant Tax Reform. Additional money flooding into the U.S. Treasury. And then turn right around and use this surplus to fund infrastructure projects, maybe even another Cash-for-Clunkers program, creating jobs, stimulating cash flow, increasing the amount of money consumers have available, boosting business activity through having more customers with cash, stimulating hiring, shrinking unemployment levels.
Oh, wait, this could have started on Jan. 1 of this year, just by letting the Bush era tax cuts expire as scheduled at the end of last year. Somebody extended them though. Someone didn’t want to see additional revenue flooding into the nation’s coffers. Someone wanted to see the artificial “debt-ceiling” reached sooner, rather than later, triggering an artificial “debt crisis” coupled with calls to slash government spending, destroy government programs, lay off government workers and establish the second incarnation of the Catfood Commission called the Super Congress, nicknamed the Deficit Commission, when we could have had a Surplus Commission if only the Bush era tax cuts had been allowed to expire as scheduled last year. Hmmm, I wonder who did this?”
Answer: President Obama, Sen. Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, each of whom individually or together could have stopped the extension of the Bush era tax cuts, just by their doing nothing. Instead, they decided to pass legislation extending these toxic Bush era tax cuts…just what the Republicans ordered.
Thanks, Oracle. You make some good points. And I’m inclined to agree with you. Depressing, huh?
