GOP Piety Song Parody (Sing to Billy Joel’s Honesty)
Thanks so much to Dick Polman, whose politics of selective piety post inspired this song parody. You can sing it to Billy Joel’s Honesty.
GOP Piety Song Parody (Sing to Billy Joel’s Honesty)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
If you search for hypocrites,
They aren’t hard to find.
The Republicans just give and give.
They brag about their piousness,
But to justice they are blind.
Consistency just ain’t the way they live.
Piety is such a misused word.
GOPers preach on cue.
Piety — their fakery’s absurd.
See through them and turn red to blue.
They can always find reasons
To use a “faith” disguise,
As they wear religion on their sleeve.
But I don’t want some petty man
To tell us pious lies.
All I want is someone to believe.
Piety is such a misused word.
GOPers pray on cue.
Piety — their zealotry’s absurd.
See through them and turn red to blue.
We must find a leader
Who this war will end,
Who will boost security,
The Bill of Rights defend.
Pieties don’t comfort me,
Nor GOP refrains.
Say no.
Say no.
They won’t keep our country free.
They’re too unconcerned.
They don’t care that human rights are gone.
I despise fake piety,
So to the Dems I must turn,
Cause they’re the ones that we depend on.
Piety is such a misused word.
GOPers preach on cue.
Piety — their fakery’s absurd.
See through them and turn red to blue.

This poetry/song is so true, too bad it took the majority of citizens so long to find out. I do not consider myself to be a smart person, but I noticed the hypocricy among this group years ago during the Nixon era. This group of thugs has not changed, and never will. They are the most corrupt people in government. From now on, the title “Republican” will certainly make people think, because from now on, it will be synonymous with corruption, dishonesty, murder, extortion and any other heinous crime that you can imagine. Also; you can associate arrogance, disregard for the law, lying, stealing, flip-flopping, cowardice, draft-dodging among a lot of other low-down dirty dealings with the rethug party.
Thanks for your comment Lorie. I agree with you completely.
Damn skippy, Mad. Well done!
Thanks so much arse poetica. So glad you liked it!
Well-done, Mad, and so appropriate… the GOP does give us Piety instead of Honesty, doesn’t it! I’ve linked you on this one.
Thanks so much Steve for the nice words and the link! But it’s worse than piety — it’s feigned piety. :)

Piety, a song…
Inspired by the profound declarations of deep faith by the candidates at the Republican Presidential debate the other night, MadKane wrote a song celebrating their devotion to the Lord, to be sung to the tune of Billy Joel’s Honesty. clipped from http://www….

carnival of political punditry – June 17, 2007…
This is an interesting carnival. We begin with some jabs at the President and the GOP in general with few articles about the Iraq war in the mix. We then move on to some opinions about the current economy. Staying on course with current events, we mo…..
Love, loving, loved this! You do these parodies so very well.
Thanks so much Sara and Deb!

I think I had seen your blogname for one of Jon’s post’s comments or maybe on someone’s blogroll, but just wanted to say I enjoyed your stuff and will probably come back again!
Get a life. Seriously. This country is dependant upon both parties. Both parties have a lot to offer. If we did not have both parties, we would not be the democratic country that we are. Hm…that sounds similar to soem country out there, but I can not figure out who…
