Dear spring, I am feeling abused,
And I’m NOT even slightly amused;
It’s late March, as you know.
Yet they’re mentioning snow.
So of laziness YOU stand accused.

Yet Another Weather Complaint (Limerick)
Friday, March 25th, 2022Enough Already! (Limerick)
Thursday, March 10th, 2022Today’s Accuweather Headline: “Powerful storm to bury interior Northeast under heavy snow”
Dear Spring, I’m sure hoping you’ll shove
Winter out of the way. No kid glove!
I’m impatient as hell
For a mild weather spell.
Signed Madeleine Kane, with much love.
Something ELSE To Worry About (Limerick)
Wednesday, March 9th, 2022If only I were making this story up: Headline: “Giant spiders expected to drop from sky across the East Coast this spring”
“Giant spiders,” East Coast-bound, this spring;
Using parachute-webs, down they’ll swing.
“Invasive,” yet “harmless?”
I’m far from alarmless
O’er spider hordes — beasts on the wing.
More Snow? Oh, Shove It! (Limerick)
Wednesday, March 21st, 2018I’m just back from the front of our house,
Where the heavens continue to douse
Our brick steps and our walk.
Though at shov’ling I balk,
I heave snow-mountains — NOT that I’d grouse.
That Snow Job They Call Spring (Limerick)
Wednesday, March 21st, 2018Spring’s begun with a bang! I’m annoyed,
Cuz more shov’ling I’d rather avoid,
But since stuff from above’ll
Not stop, need my shovel.
That tool, alas, must be deployed!
First Day Of Spring? NOT In New York! (Limerick)
Tuesday, March 20th, 2018It’s the first day of spring? I don’t buy it,
Cuz the elements surely defy it;
Twelve inches of snow
Are on route here, so NO!
Don’t insist that it’s spring. I’ll deny it.
This Weather’s For The Birds! (Limerick)
Monday, March 28th, 2016Though it’s springtime, the temp’rature’s low.
It’s damp, and the wind’s all a-blow.
And I swear that I heard
These words chirped by a bird:
“For THIS I flew north? I hate snow!”
Hope Springs Eternal (Limerick)
Saturday, March 19th, 2016Though tomorrow’s the first day of spring,
My seasonal thoughts can’t take wing
Cuz of snow-forecast-blues-men
And wet blanket newsmen.
Are they wrong? To that dream I shall cling.
Windy St. Patrick’s Day Limerick
Tuesday, March 17th, 2015Windy St. Patrick’s Day Limerick
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Thinking Jack Frost had split, we high-fived.
But our basking in warmth was short-lived.
Winter managed to con us–
Cold wind is upon us–
A low blow as St. Pat’s Day arrived.
(More wind poetry here.)
Open Limerick To My Southern Hemisphere Friends
Thursday, March 20th, 2014Open Limerick To My Southern Hemisphere Friends
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Don’t be mad, if it’s fall where you are.
(My friends are from near and from far.)
I can’t help blow my cork
Over spring in New York,
Which (so far) appears way under par.
Springtime Blues
Thursday, March 20th, 2014Springtime Blues
By Madeleine Begun Kane
It’s the first day of spring — so they claim,
And I’m searching for someone to blame,
Cuz we’re still in the throes
Of winter, which chose
To give springtime a very bad name.
Beached Plans (Limerick)
Friday, May 24th, 2013I sure hope your Memorial Day weekend weather’s better than ours, here in New York.
Beached Plans (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Though Memorial Day is upon us,
Winter clothing continues to don us.
So I plead and beseech:
Kindly stop talking “beach.”
New York media’s trying to con us.
Spring? You’re Kidding, Right? (Limerick)
Tuesday, March 19th, 2013Spring? You’re Kidding, Right? (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Spring is legally set to begin,
Which in light of the weather’s a sin:
Last night we had snow,
Sleet, and ice here and so
There’s a seasonal mix-up herein.
Weathering Spring (Limerick)
Thursday, April 26th, 2012Weathering Spring (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
I wonder just what is the reason
Why spring’s such an ornery season.
First it’s cold, then it’s hot,
Then it’s icy, then not —
Makes me ask whether spring is just teasin’.
(Think Tank Thursday prompts us to wonder.)
My Reluctant Limerick Ode To Spring
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012Spring’s here. The weather’s great! I have nothing to bitch about. What’s a poor limerick writer to do?
My Reluctant Limerick Ode To Spring
By Madeleine Begun Kane
In previous years, I would blast:
“Spring’s arrived. Please tell winter it’s passed.
“Cuz it seems not to know —
“We are still getting snow!”
I’m aghast — can’t lambaste — spring came fast.
Dear Calendar
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011Dear Calendar (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Dear calendar, why are you lying?
You claim that it’s spring. I’m not buying.
We had one lovely day,
But now snow’s on the way.
You’ve betrayed us — there’s no use denying.
(Inspired by this spring prompt and, of course, the damn New York City weather. Posted also at Write A Letter, Jingle Poetry’s deception and misrepresentation prompt, and at Poetic Asides.)
A Season For Limericks (Poetry Prompt)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010I hope you’ll join me in writing a limerick with this as its first line:
There’s a hint of sweet spring in the air.
Here’s mine:
A Season For Limericks
By Madeleine Begun Kane
There’s a hint of sweet spring in the air,
And I’m strolling outside, both arms bare.
Yes, I know it can’t last.
Winter surely will blast
One more storm, but right now I don’t care.
Please feel free to write your own limerick using the same first line and post it in my comments. And if you’re on Facebook, you’re welcome to join my friends in that same activity in my Limerick-Offs.
Dear Spring
Thursday, April 24th, 2008Dear Spring
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Dear spring, you are late once again.
Yet you claim that you’ve been here, since when?
Thirty days? That can’t be:
It’s still cold out, you see.
And some sun would be nice, now and then.
Note: I feel almost guilty posting this, since yesterday’s weather was delightful. But a couple of days ago, when Totally Optional Prompts prompted me to write it, it was unseasonably cold.
