June Down The Drain (Limerick & Haiku)
June in New York’s been a wash-out this year. So I’ve written both a limerick and a haiku about our rainy weather. And I welcome you to write some weather verse too:
First my limerick:
June Down The Drain
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Oh, when will the rain ever wane?
Our weather this June’s been insane.
We are having a bout
With the inverse of drought.
So whoever’s in charge, please refrain!
And now my haiku:
Rainy New York June
Has identity crisis:
It thinks it’s April.
Feel free to write your own weather-related limerick (using my first line, if you’d like) and/or weather haiku and post it in my comments. And if you’re on Facebook, please join my FB friends in a limerick-off and haiku-off.

Oh, when will the rain ever wane?
The wetness is causing me pain.
My joints are all aching,
My spirit is breaking..
Oh, please give us sunshine again!
~~@~~
the deluge pours on
both soil and soul are soggy
sunshine needed here
I wrote this for my wife when she was pregnant for the second time. She was standing on our balcony in Rome at night.
Under moon and star
I see you filled with new life
two hearts beat as one
“Oh, when will the rain ever wane?”
Asked my wife, who is clearly insane.
Without her permission
I called her physician
‘cause the rain, it was all in her brain.
Oh, when will the rain ever wane?
Asked a frazzled young lady named Jane.
Outdoor wedding’s all planned.
Will I stand with my man
In sunbeams or droplets of rain?
Oh, when will the rain ever wane?
The puddles are filling the lane.
This month is so wet,
So I’ll make a bet,
NY er’s are going insane!
Oh when will the rain ever wane,
Asks the fabulous poet Ms. Kane.
Look up to the sky.
One day it will dry.
And the sun will come out once again.
June in Oregon.
Weathermen predict blue skies;
Where’s my umbrella?
Oh when will the rain ever wane?
The murder sent blood down the drain.
Like an Agatha Christie
Murder mystery,
But this was by Mickey Spillane.
Portland roses bloom
From tear drops of heaven’s gloom.
Rhodies also loom.
Oh, when will the rain ever wane?
I always hear people complain
When the sun comes out shining
We’ll all start our chiming
“Oh when will we see some more rain!”
Oh when will the rain ever wane?
As a dog, thunderstorms I disdain!
In such elements I must pee…
It’s disgusting, you’ll agree!
I wish dogs could be litterbox trained!
Oh, when will the rain ever wane?
Though resignation we may often feign
Here in Portland, Oregon
We still crave the sun
Lest Vitamin D deficiencies reign.
Oh, when will your rain ever wane?
When we die, when we wither in pain!
Your paint mightn’t dry,
But we sit here and fry,
While you sop and you bitch and complain.
These are delightful. Thanks!
Mine is here:
FACING THE FLOOD – A SUMMERTIME MEMORY
I inverted the first limerick, using your line as the closer. Seemed to fit. ;-)
Will it ever stop raining, you ask?
As if I could the weather unmask.
If Ogden were here, he
Would answer your query
“Do I look like a weather forecask?”
Another delightful group of limericks. Thanks!
