Limerick Ode To End Timers

Limerick Ode To End Timers
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Fanatics are trying to fend
With this concept: the world’s gonna end.
When portentous predictions
Turn out to be fictions,
They re-do their math and amend.

(Prompted by dire religious predictions and this weekend’s end theme)

  1. Mad, this was so apropos. Every few years, some idiot decides he (and it’s always a guy) has decoded the Revelation of John and, despite the same fundamentalism that should prompt him to remember ‘no one knows the day or hour,’ decides he, in fact, DOES know.

Then they gather on a hilltop or by the beach until a couple of days past the deadline… then they quietly go home, tails between legs.

Hey, if these folks spent half as much time volunteering in soup kitchens or mowing the little old lady’s lawn next door as they do tinkering with Scripture, the world would be a better place! Amy

hehehe, i like the re-do their math and amend

I heard of someone I used to work with, he and his wife fell for one of these doomdsay plots, ran up HUGE bills, and then were left to face it all. I never heard how they coped.

Tweet on Wednesday from the inimitable Prof Brian Cox: “expect everyone who thinks so-called #judgementday is May 21st to support science and reason from the 22nd onwards” Love it!

You’re right on the money with your Limerick, Mad.

Wonderful Mad! Mad?….Mad?…..Hello?… you there?….shit, now who’s gonna grade the Limericks tomorrow?

  5. hansi says:

Well said, but with an attitude like that, I think it’s a pretty sure bet you won’t get raptured. That’s OK; we ‘Left Behinders’ will have a great party after JC scoops up all his favorites.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words, thoughtful comments, and amusing comments.

    Fanatics are trying to fend
to take this old world round the bend
    far left or far right
    a perpetual fight
can’t we meet in the center to mend?

Thought this was the prompt for next week but I’ll go ahead and post this anyway then see if I can do the correct one tomorrow.

    Fun limerick, Victoria.

Everyone’s free to use any of my first line’s as a prompt. But the official Limerick-Offs are always labeled Limerick-Off and usually posted on Sundays or Mondays.
