Limerick Ode To St. Patrick’s Day — March 17th
Limerick Ode To St. Patrick’s Day
By Madeleine Begun Kane
On St. Patrick’s Day join in the fun.
We’re all Irish that day — yes, each one.
So wear green, find a pub,
Eat some cabbagy grub,
And until you’ve drunk beer, you ain’t done.

Saint Paddie’s day is for wearin’ o’ the green
Cause everyone’s Irish, or so it would seem
Be it in a pub, or all alone
Tis a time to kiss that Blarney stone.
Though I’m not Irish, I must confess
I’ll have a few Guinness, and do my best.
Though not quite a limerick, I’ve come up short
I’ll have a few more, and salute County Cork.
Reminds me it’s time for the annual Guinness!
Thanks for your verse, Hansi. And enjoy that Guinness, Sandy!
‘cabbagy grub’ – what a great phrase!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Will be taking out ot town friends out on the town tonight! Happy SPD!
Happy St Paddy’s, Miss O’Kane
It is curious how many of us search out and often find our Irish roots (often quite distant), and those poor souls without such a connection still need to partake in St. Pat’s day celebration. Thank you for your prolific output of limericks they are a delight.
Great outpouring of undefined rhyme! That’s more my style!
In fact, I just posted this spontaneous comment on Facebook which I instantly loved as a “let freedom rhyme” thing:
I DEFINITELY smell shock and awe in the air. All the signs are there. The pattern recalled from early “blame Iraq” days is right. right there in plain sight! (That’s almost a poem–I’ll have to post it for Mad Kane! LOL!)
Very fun! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
Thanks everyone. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. And I hope you had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!
