Not So Splendid Limerick
Sometimes I’m very disobedient when it comes to poetry prompts. For instance, Haiku Heights asks us to use the word splendor in … surprise, surprise … haiku. So what do I do? I use it in a limerick, instead.
Not So Splendid Limerick
By Madeleine Begun Kane
I wonder what constitutes splendor
And if views of it vary by gender.
Some see it in people
Or art or a steeple.
And others in green legal tender.

Love your limerick, Mad. I’ll try:
When it comes to writing of splendor
I can only be a pretender.
…In The Grass – an okay movie
But the Pekar one’s groovy
But not The Prisoner of Zenda.
Thanks, Jesse!
I’ll tell ya what lacks any splendor
Tis when some drunk crashes your fender
Some fool leaving a bar
Thinkin’ he can still drive his car.
After being totally impaired from a two week bender.
Hansi, I must agree with you!
Just give me sugar
For diabetes, no worse
Than faux-sweet Splenda
Oh, I’m sorry , did you say “splendor?”
Seriously, though, that is one damned fine limerick, Mad.
Visualize “splendor”…
Mountains? Lilies? Seasons? Meh.
Buttocks! I like senryu…
I can’t believe I posted a 5-7-6! haiku. Sigh. Okay, maybe amend that last bit to, “And senryu.”
Thanks, Steve! Whatever the count, I enjoyed your verse.
But it really is a splendid limerick. Great fun.

Thanks so much, Vivienne!
