Weathering Those Weather Reports
TV weather reporters in the New York metropolitan area had a wonderful time last week, warning us about Hurricane Earl and all the rain that was surely coming our way. They gave us “teaser” reports early in the news shows, making us wait, as usual, for forecasts that turned out to be wrong.
We had hurricane watches and warnings galore … but no actual rain. In short, New York City weather predictions were a washout.
Weathering Those Weather Reports (Limerick)

Why use weather reports as your guide?
I really don’t mean to be snide,
But they tend to be wrong
And they take way too long.
Want a forecast that’s right? Go outside.

So, Earl’s gonna be a big storm?
For this time of year it’s the norm.
The forcasters are pros
So they oughta know
If the storm will rebel or conform.
But they blew it this time I can see
Earl’s a pipsqueak (let’s all go “tee hee”)
The weatherman’s a putz
His predictions are nuts
And what’s more they’re accuracy free.
Hurricane Earl is a pain,
with torrents of rain,
and winds that will blow you away,
so this game I did play,
bottled water, batteries and soups I did buy,
Earl came, TWC again you lie,
Next time I will follow weather underground.
Haha. These are all so much fun to read! Thanks for entering your post in my Smiley Sociology Study. :)
Thanks Rhyme! Good luck with that study!
Hi, Madeleine. Saw your link at Rachel’s. I also submitted my link there. Wonderful post! I live in New Jersey and I remember that. I guess it’s nice to have warnings of bad weather, but generally it’s a sign of our times that we need technology to tell us what we can see for ourselves! :-)
Thanks so much Sweepy Jean! A sign of our times, indeed. :)
Indeed! Just look out the window or step outside. So many people feel the need to look on their computer or cell phone to find out the weather-sad.
Absolutely true. :)
