Acrostic Limerick Ode To Chubby Checker
Happy birthday to Chubby Checker! The father of the twist (my favorite dance) was born October 3, 1941.
I thought I’d celebrate with an acrostic limerick, which is as mind-bending as the twist is body-bending:
Acrostic Limerick Ode To Chubby Checker
By Madeleine Begun Kane
There’s a dance with a hot checkered past.
We grooved on its moves — whirling fast!
I still do it today,
Shifting weight, as I sway–
Twirling waist motion, saucily cast.
If you’re asking yourself, “What’s an acrostic limerick?” here’s some info:
In an acrostic poem, the first letter of each line should, taken together, spell out the topic of your poem. Please note that it’s NOT enough to spell out a word; Your limerick or other poem must describe or otherwise directly relate to that word.

We’ll twirl to a three-quarter beat,
And give other dancers a treat.
Lessons will make me more
Twinkle-toed, to quell your
Zero patience with my two left feet!
Put both feet together, then skip
Or step fast to the side, but don’t trip.
Let’s change sides: faster, go!
Klutz, dear, we can’t be slow;
Award winning? Well – good sportsmanship.
Bump our hips to the beat, and jump back
Use your butt, body, ass, legs – whole rack!
My hair’s soaked, we’re in heat;
Push! Keep grooving to the beat —
(Please: I promise, we’ll soon be in the sack :^D )
My mom taught me to dance years ago
And when she now visits, a show
May be seen in our hall,
But we’re having a ball!
Odd, my husband stares! Smiles. On we go :)
Memories come to the fore now and then:
All of nineteen then, I now recall, when
Roving young servicemen gave me the eye
As a USO girl ‘neath the Hollywood sky.
That night was so special: a contest, a dance!
He wasn’t my boyfriend, but we staked our chance
On stubbornness…Seventeen hours of “fun”,
New hundred-buck bill was divvied — we won!!
Impressive and fun to read yours and what others had to add to it

So that’s what an acrostic limerick is like…. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool. Yeah, the twist. Best exercise ever! :)
Concise and full of meaning. Just as you wanted us to know.
Aww–clever!
Ha! I remember when the Twist “scandalized” the old folks…..they would not BELIEVE the music videos young people look at now, all that crotch-grabbing – yoiks!
Thanks so much everyone for your delightful comments!
