When Readings Go From Verse To Worse
I was asked to read several limericks at the third annual Los Angeles Limerick Fest Wednesday night, held at the Altadena Ale House. Since I live in New York City, arrangements were made for me to read them via phone.
As you can tell from this limerick, my reading went awry:
When Readings Go From Verse To Worse
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Reading limerick verse from afar
Via phone to a mike in a bar
Is a risky affair:
Noise and feedback will blare.
Pass the sidecar. I’m still below par.

Reading limericks, by phone, to an ale house miles away? How odd.
It could be worse – I once gave a speech in a bar where the background noise was so loud I’m absolutely sure no one heard a single word I said. It became a mime act!
Nice for you to be asked though, and experiments like this always worth a go..better luck next time.
By phone, eh? Better luck next time. Your limerick is funny though.
At least you didn’t have to worry about what to wear!
Sounds like a brave attempt, anyway
But to find humor and be able to laugh at/with yourself is to raise the bar for all of us.
The Los Angeles Limerick fest? What a cool sounding fest. I wish I would have known…
Groans and gasps of laughter are equally healing…
You had me at the title! Very funny one, Madeline and I agree with Robyn about not needing a new outfit!
Thanks so much everyone for your lovely comments!
