The Neglected Limerick (Limerick)

I’ve noticed that many otherwise diversified poets don’t write limericks, and that many limerick writers tend to specialize, generally avoiding other verse forms. I wonder if this explains the former:

The Neglected Limerick (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

The lim’rick is often neglected
By poets who deem it infected
With lewdness beneath them.
It’s time to unsheathe them,
Wielding limericks clearly erected.

    In answer:

    I don’t think a limerick beneath me.
I just have a preference to be free.
When it comes to a word,
I’m as free as a bird,
and I write where my heart has the most glee.

  2. A limerick has a format defined
Where rhythm and rhyme are assigned
    To five lines of verse,
    Either pure or perverse;
But the lewd ones are better, I find.

  3. In response i was driven to do a non-limerick post. But it DID rhyme.
