Limerick Ode To Flowering Weeds

Limerick Ode To Flowering Weeds
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Our neighbor insists we should weed
And refuses to even concede
That a weed can have beauty.
That gal is too snooty.
Methinks that her soul’s gone to seed.

UPDATE: March 28 is Weed Appreciation Day.

  1. I lived next door to someone like that. My weeds offended her so much I came home one day to find her on her knees in MY yard pulling them out! Sheesh! She needed to take a Chill Pill!

  2. A weed is just a plant in the wrong spot.
A rose is a weed in a wheat field.

Oh yes, weeds are but wild flowers after all. There is a lovely patch of scrub land that I walk past every morning – at the moment it is a riot of colour. A lovely poem!

does every flower start as a seed
and who decides which one we need
    while some might need plucking
    I’d prefer to be _ucking
taking pleasure in the flower’s reprieve
