Acrostic Limerick to Celebrate National Wine Day
May 25th is a big day for wine lovers — National Wine Day. So I thought I’d celebrate with an acrostic limerick:
Acrostic Limerick To Celebrate National Wine Day
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Whatever your regular pick
In selecting a drink with a kick,
Never let any ice
Enter wine — it ain’t nice,
Said a wine snob, who poured it on thick.

Niiiice!! A sour (really wanted to say “sweet”.. but that’s soooo wrong for wine.. no?) tribute to that ooh-la-la drink!! Now some cubes of pepperjack to go alongwith! :)
Good advice with oodles of fun.
Very clever. Obviously this form is a “natural” for you. Enjoyed it!
Nice… especially since I’m going to an Atlanta Sommelier Guild dinner this evening.
When tasting the finest of wine
It don’t matter much where I dine
No matter the place
Elisson feeds his face
Sipping wine until ending supine.
ha. yeah if you got to put ice in it…ack…nice acrostic…may 25th is also my 15th wedding anniversary…hmmm…perhaps a bottle of wine…
Lovely sipping your words. Gets me in the mood for my long weekend on the Mendocino coast.
Fun lil poem! i’ll remember not to use ice cubes….
deliciously snarky, perfectly limericky.
When you drink from a really fine glass
If the grape’s from the best in its class
Never rush to consume it
Eat some good food to tune it
So your palate will have the last laugh
A double wammy a limerick and acrostic – how slick
mmm no whining here
But, I can still drink straight from the bottle, right?
On this great day, what can we say, but ice water dilution is a form of pollution!
Subject matter expert,I’d wager….:)
visiting here is always fun. i need to work on being a little lighter from time to time. good grief, i think i’m like charlie brown sometimes when i write. it’s all so morose :)
I liked it my friend, Its very appropriate. Today is also Raymond Carver’s birthday who was alcoholic to began with and gave up drinking in 1977 to become one of the prolific writers and a major american poet… ;-)
thanks for sharing this one…

Better last line: –
When you drink from a really fine glass,
If the grape’s from the best in its class,
Never rush to consume it
Eat some good food to tune it
So the taste, not too quickly will pass.
This wine’s got astonishing nose
Somewhat piquant, as Chilean red goes
The tannins align
For a bouquet quote fine
Let’s get wasted, and call up some ho’s!
TYPO!
It SHOULD have read:
This wine’s got astonishing nose
Somewhat piquant, as Chilean red goes
The tannins align
For a bouquet quite fine
Let’s get wasted, and call up some ho’s!
I’ll drink to that.
Reading your work these last two One Shots I have come to appreciate the talent it takes to write a good Limerick, you are quite the master. Cheers ~ Rose
Loved it!

tasted good….well done and thanks for sharing
Just a second here. I commented ‘Packs a punch’ and was informed my comment was too short.
Eh? So how did somebody above write, ‘Loved it!’ and get away with it?
Hmmm. Revision time:
Mad Kane: Packs a punch. Lovely Limerick. Loved it!
Not a wine drinker, but still like the humor and fun you have writing these snippets and limericks,
Elizabeth
Niiiiiiiice! How did I miss Wine Day?! I’m ticked!!! Glug, glug, glug. Nevermind. Feeling better. :)
But what about Ice Wine? Guess it was invented when a crop froze and they decided to try and do something with it… Seneca Lake, Geneva NY area. It’s awfully sweet, though…
Loved your limerick, Mad! Here’s a snarky version of creation, Amy
