Dear Calendar
Dear Calendar (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Dear calendar, why are you lying?
You claim that it’s spring. I’m not buying.
We had one lovely day,
But now snow’s on the way.
You’ve betrayed us — there’s no use denying.
(Inspired by this spring prompt and, of course, the damn New York City weather. Posted also at Write A Letter, Jingle Poetry’s deception and misrepresentation prompt, and at Poetic Asides.)

I like your poetry inspired by the spring prompt, “Dear Calendar,”…”why are you lying?” clever, witty, a nice poem expressing your apparent love for brevity; I should practice this more. My poetry tends to be long but I write what I feel as we poets do.
Thank you for the privilege of sharing and I wish you much success as well as a blessed and happy day!
Peace.
John
Madeleine, I love your limericks. You are always good for a smile and we need those a lot these days. Thanks for this one.
smart and cool,
thanks for being you..

Thanks everyone for your enthusiastic words. And John, it’s true I’m fond of brevity. Ironic, since for many years I worked as a lawyer writing long legal documents, oddly named “briefs.” :)
Being raised in South Dakota, winter always seemed to last forever, and just when we dared to pull out the spring clothes, it snowed again – often in April! I loved your poem, it makes a lovely letter. You are so talented that stopping by to read your contributions to Write A Letter Wednesday and Monday Memories is a treat! Thanks for sharing with us! :-)
Thanks JTS! What a lovely thing to say!
We love limericks, and to write it in letter form is very clever…Well done !
Thanks JL!
Madeleine, just an FYI, for Jingle Poetry’s Saturday Poem of the Week I’m featuring a humor poem but also sending readers to your blog for more humor. Hope it will give you some traffic. You may want to check it out and mention it in a post for your followers. (It’s the same site as Poetry Potluck) It will be up tonight at 6 PM PDT.

You are a breath of fresh air, – brevity IS the soul of wit.
Thanks so much Vivienne and Victoria. And thanks Victoria for the kind mention in Jingle Poetry!
Ooh a pertinant reminder that we could still have snow here, even though it feels like spring!
Nice limerick!
Brilliant! I hope we won’t have any snow now. We haven’t had any this year, unusually, and I’ve just taken off my snow tyres.
Thanks so much Susannah and Earlybird!
