Facebook Face Off?
Many Facebook users are angry or at least concerned about Facebook’s revised and more aggressive terms of service (TOS).
Consumerist has some good info here about Facebook’s perpetual content rights grab, and WebTechLaw explains the legal ramifications and what Facebook’s revised terms mean for your content.
I’ve never been a Facebook fan and now I like it even less. But at least it’s provided inspiration for a new limerick:
Facebook Face-Off
By Madeleine Begun Kane
Greedy Facebook has published new rules
Which play all its users for fools.
It’s a content rights grab—
A perpetual nab
Of your stuff just for using its tools.
UPDATE: Facebook has reversed itself about these new rules as a result of bad press and membership ire. I’ll be activating my account and I’ll see how it goes.

Hi Mad, I’ve been Facebookless and Twitterless on purpose. I always get a little suspicious when I see masses of people clambering for a service or object. I’ve heard it has lots of bells and whistles and tweets, but it seems to me like a refurbished mostly white collar ICQ.
Nice limerick! I too, was a little offended by the whole rights issue on Facebook. Great way to voice your opinion.
So, ARE you on Facebook now, Mad? If so, add me as a friend. I enjoy playing ‘Lexulous’, a Scrabble take-off, which is one of the applications. I’m thinking you might be a Scrabble enthusiast as well?
I enjoy Facebook as an easy way to stay in touch with friends and family. However, I’m glad the Facebook folks have relaxed the proposed new terms of membership.
Thank, Suzanne!
And yes. Now that they’ve relaxed their rules, I’ve gotten active on Facebook. I’m actually both enjoying it and finding it productive, much to my surprise. And Lexulous is fun, as well!
Hey, I don’t find you under Mad Kane. So invite me to be a friend! (Lyn Hopper, aka quotesqueen)
Lyn, for some reason the Facebook search engine only finds me if you search for my full name, Madeleine Begun Kane or Madeleine Kane, but not Mad Kane
